1 Year of Covid-19: A reflection

It feels like just yesterday we were all feeling the anxiety and uncertainty of a new disease that was spreading quickly around the world that no one truly understood yet. We were facing the first wave of cases, the fear of going outside and being around people and the first round of quarantines and restrictions.  It feels like just yesterday, but also so long ago.  I, and I am sure many others, am feeling a mix of emotions.  Sad for the loss of comfort we once had. Grief for all the lives lost and permanently changed. Thankful for my health and that of my family. Gratitude for the scientists and frontline workers alike, working tirelessly behind the scenes I hope that one day we can return to a new normal. I hope that one day I'll be able to go to work and not feel  afraid  to get too close to my coworkers and patients. I hope that no one will ever again have to face the end of their lives all alone. I hope that no one has their life cut short because of an insidious virus that

Holiday Gift Guide for Nurses - 2020

2020... the year of the nurse... and the year all hell broke loose. If you are a nurse, or have a nurse in your life that you love, 2020 would be the year to be spoiled. I compiled this list of fantastic gifts you can gift the nurse or nursing student in your life (or yourself, if you're a nurse!) for the holidays this year. A lot of these options can be bought from small shops local to you (check Etsy!) which is a huge bonus!  Watch  A must have for all nurses! I have had a FitBit in the past and now have an Apple Watch. I loved both because they're extremely easy to clean after every shift. However there are also great nurse watches you can pin to your scrubs!  Here are my recommendations: 1   2   3   ID badge clip Etsy shop: PaperCharmsStudio I personally love changing up my badge clip every few months, and there are so many options online for cute, handmade ones or personalized ones!  I buy mine here and you can find more (personalized, unit specific, etc.) here . Why I Chose Nursing

Note: Before I begin, for anyone not familiar with the education system in Canada, specifically Quebec, we have 5 years of high school, followed by CEGEP (2 years for a pre-university program or 3 years for a career program), and then university. Why did I choose Nursing. It's a question at least one teacher a semester asks us to share with the class to get to know us. It's a question friends, family and acquaintances ask me all the time. It's a question I ask myself when I'm up at 4am studying or dealing with a particularly difficult clinical assignment. The past year and a half has been a total whirlwind of confusion, leading to choosing this career path, leading to the intense studying that comes with it. So why did I choose Nursing? Like the majority of people my age, I was totally lost. Growing up, I was always that kid who would "probably end up in medical school". I wasn't even sure myself but figured I'd end up doing something in the sci

Best Moisturizers for Extra Dry Hands

Anyone who works in a healthcare setting (or anywhere else that requires frequent, intense hand washing) knows that there's nothing worse (and more common!) than dry, cracked hands. I have had such a hard time dealing with this problem and I've tried out so many hand creams trying to find the best of the best; fast absorbing, non greasy, intensely moisturizing and safe for sensitive skin. I've found quite a few great creams and I thought I'd share my favourites! These are all ones that I swear by and are also safe for sensitive and eczema prone skin. If you have really dry hands or are washing your hands frequently and need a good moisturizer to keep your hands soft and lovely, these are definitely ones to try. In no particular order....... Lush - Formulae Known As (AKA the old Charity Pot) I love this stuff! I picked up one of these the first ever time I shopped at Lush and I've been repurchasing it ever since. It smells so nice (kind of like chocolate!) but
