January Favourites!

Hey everyone! I'm a bit late on my favourites this month (blame school!) but I have a ton of things that I LOVED this month so this will be a long one! If you would like a longer, more in depth review of any of the products I've mentioned, let me know in the comments and I will definitely do one!

Makeup:

Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation
I've been using the Too Faced 'Born This Way' foundation pretty steadily since the summer so I was looking to try something new this month and I found a great one. This foundation has the nicest texture and gives incredible coverage. The staying power is also pretty great for a drugstore foundation.

Nyx High Voltage Lipsticks
These lipsticks are so incredible that I've gone back to purchase more about 3 times. I own around 6 of them now and I'm so in love with them. They do everything you want from a lipstick: they're creamy and hydrating, they have a great lasting power and the best thing about them is how insanely pigmented they are. Let me know in the comments if you'd like a more in depth review with swatches of all the ones I have!

Beauty Blender
I put off buying one of these for so long but having now tried it, I can honestly say that the hype around this product is justified. The Beauty Blender applies my foundation and concealer better than a lot of my brushes do. In fact, I tested out a few products I didn't like once again but using the Beauty Blender to apply it, and they looked a hundred times better.

Rejuvacote
I had 3 back-to-back Shellac manicures over the course of December and early January and it left my nails really dry, brittle and weak. My nail technician highly recommended this product, which is essentially a treatment for your nails that applies like a clear polish but strengthens your nails with vitamins and makes them stronger. I'm so glad I decided to give this product a try. My nails were back to their normal, healthy selves in almost no time at all!

Skin Care:

Olay Fresh Effects Long Live Moisture! Satin Finish Lotion
I've struggled trying to find a good moisturizer that would leave my skin hydrated but also not overly greasy. They're not kidding when they say this moisturizer has a satin finish; you will not believe how smooth and silky it leaves your skin feeling. It hydrates but basically doubles as the perfect primer for your foundation. Amazing.

St Ives Oatmeal and Shea Butter moisturizer
I'm so lazy with moisturizing my skin, but now that it's winter and my skin is much drier, I don't have much of a choice. As soon as I tried this one, I was honestly changed (I know, that sounded really dramatic). This stuff is so nice I actually WANT to use it. It smells sweet and leaves the skin super hydrated and soft. And of course, the thing that makes or breaks a moisturizer for many; it is quickly absorbed and isn't greasy!!

Marcelle Micellar water
I've been using this product for months, so I can't say its really a January favourite... The reason why I'm including it though this this: I took it for granted. I ran out of it and was using a few different micellar waters only to rush back to buy another bottle of this. It's just so good. It removes all makeup in just 2 swipes of a cotton pad and doesn't sting your eyes. I could honestly rave about it for ages.

Entertainment

Breaking Bad
Yes, I know. I very well may be the last person on earth to watch this show. I put it off for so long thinking I wouldn't be that into it. Finally, I caught up to everything I'm currently watching and (with my boyfriends persistent encouragement) I started watching it. I won't say anything else about it other than the fact that I started it around the second week of January and I'm currently starting the 5th season... Yeah, its good...

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
If you're looking for a funny, light read, I recommend this book so so much. I love Mindy Kaling's style of writing and sense of humour. It's such an entertaining and quick read, I loved every minute of it.

The BEST and EASIEST Waffle Recipe! (Blogmas Day 9)

When it starts to get chilly out, I find myself making waffles pretty often. In fact, our Sunday breakfast usually consists of waffles of some kind. And in my house, I'm the designated waffle chef. I have the best recipe for waffles that are truly delicious AND any lazy chefs dream; its all done in one bowl, with ingredients everyone has in their kitchen. Literally foolproof and delicious. Perfect for Christmas morning! Makes anywhere from 8-12 waffles, depending on the size of your waffle iron. Ingredients:  2 cups of All-Purpose flour 1 tablespoon of baking powder 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar 1/4 teaspoon of salt 2 eggs (beaten) 1 teaspoon of vanilla (but you can add another 1/2 teaspoon if you want a stronger vanilla taste!) 1-3/4 cups of milk 1/4 cup vegetable oil Directions:  1) In a big bowl, combine all the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, sugar and salt) 2) Create a well in the center of your dry ingredients and add your wet ingredients 3) Mix

1 Year of Covid-19: A reflection

It feels like just yesterday we were all feeling the anxiety and uncertainty of a new disease that was spreading quickly around the world that no one truly understood yet. We were facing the first wave of cases, the fear of going outside and being around people and the first round of quarantines and restrictions.  It feels like just yesterday, but also so long ago.  I, and I am sure many others, am feeling a mix of emotions.  Sad for the loss of comfort we once had. Grief for all the lives lost and permanently changed. Thankful for my health and that of my family. Gratitude for the scientists and frontline workers alike, working tirelessly behind the scenes I hope that one day we can return to a new normal. I hope that one day I'll be able to go to work and not feel  afraid  to get too close to my coworkers and patients. I hope that no one will ever again have to face the end of their lives all alone. I hope that no one has their life cut short because of an insidious virus that

Blogilates Beginner's Calendar 2.0: Review & Final Update

I've officially completed all 28 days of the Blogilates Beginner's Calendar and firstly, I have to say that I'm pretty damn proud of myself, because it was pretty difficult but I stuck with it until the end. And I had fun in the process! So, how much of a difference does this calendar really make? Does it work? Here are my final thoughts. This workout program really works, but you need to work at it too. If you're going to half ass the workouts, eat badly and skip days, you really won't see a huge difference. I really did my best to stick with it and work hard at it and I really have seen a difference. The thing about Blogilates that I enjoyed is that you won't just see a difference in your body, you'll see a difference in your mindset and motivation as well. Physically, since I began the calendar, I lost 10 pounds and I feel so much stronger than I was before. My muscles, especially my legs are so much more defined than they used to be. Cassey als
